Coastal Dreams News
Dear Reader,
With Summer behind us and Fall fast approaching it is time to reflect on what we have done, and where we are going. Although the current financial markets worldwide are in upheaval, we continue to keep busy moving forward on wealth building opportunities offshore. It is our sincere hope that all of our readers are faring well under the current circumstances. It is interesting and uplifting to note that many great ideas and companies are started in down economies! With investments, it comes down to looking at the long term over the immediate situation. It means thinking creatively instead of hiding from reality. Unstable markets create great opportunities for those looking in the right place. Looking often means learning new things. Education is an absolute necessity during tough market conditions. At Coastal Dreams Worldwide SA, we are continuing to educate and inform people about the opportunities for offshore investment through self-directed IRA's. In fact, we have another seminar coming up in the Month of October! Furthermore, we are busy preparing for our next trip to Nicaragua scheduled for the 3rd week of January 2009. See our article below on E-Travel Adventures. We are also actively beginning to connect with other parties in the Nicaraguan, and Latin American investment space. This is primarily due the growing presence of our blog. It is becoming apparent through our site traffic we house one of the most comprehensive and growing content collections on offshore investments in Nicaragua. So be sure to add our blog to your RSS feeds or check in often. Pass the link to friends and colleagues to help our community grow. On a personal note, things continue to change for both Wes and Kevin as we shift from Summer to Fall. Wes and is wife, Paula, are proud to announce the birth of their baby boy, Mathew (7 pounds 15 ounces). In addition, Kevin's oldest son Hunter (age 3) started pre-school this fall! Its amazing how time flies. Sincerely, Kevin and Wes |

Unlock the Power of Your IRA! We have talked a lot about the power of self-directed IRA's in previous newsletters and on our blog. Self-directed IRA's allow you to control where the money is invested across a large number of options.
As most investors know - in down markets you can often find some great investment opportunities. However the biggest problem is often finding the capital to take advantage of these opportunities. Self-directed IRA's can be an effective vehicle to do this, and not just domestically but also offshore opportunities.
The credit issues in the US are of course having trickle down effects on other parts of the world. Nicaragua is no exception, creating some amazing investment opportunities. Not because the market is falling in Nicaragua, but because some American investors are being forced to sell properties due to difficulties at home.
Money sitting in your IRA account can be used to pick up these properties as an investment. And that's not all - did you know that you can also pool money with other people you know to buy larger properties which often represent an even better investment potential?
If you are tired of watching your retirement funds slowly fade with the stocks or mutual funds they are currently invested in, come to Coastal Dream's next free seminar that introduces offshore investment opportunities in Nicaragua hosted by Mountain West Entrust IRA. If you are located in the Treasure Valley, come understand how you can use your retirement assets to diversify and build wealth through offshore real estate.
Date: October 22, 2008; 12-1pm Location: Entrust Idaho Office; 10096 W. Fairview Ave Ste 160, Boise, ID 83704

Beach Profile: Playa Coco
Playa Coco is one of the most spectacular beaches in Central America and one of our scheduled stops on our E-Travel (Entrepreneurial Travel) Adventure tour in January. Only 20 miles South of San Juan Del Sur, this beach has been a local favorite for many years. Playa Coco is a classic 1-mile half-moon beach. The rocky points on the North and South sides of the beach create a natural boundary to the beach and fantastic waves which are perfect for a safe swim.
Today, Playa Coco is a perfect spot for the adventurous traveler who loves to find the hidden gems in the world and does not need to have 3 star service. The road to Coco is an adventure, the amenities are few, and the payoff is fantastic for those willing to venture off the well-worn path. Ten years from now we predict that this beach will be a resort destination and will cater to different clientèle. Not long from now a major hotel chain will make their claim to the area and create a well marketed destination resort for the traveler who wants to travel to exotic lands without the hassle of dealing with exotic. The natural contours of the land, the half-moon beach, and the perfect sand / water combination make this beach very attractive to a high-end year around resort. With that in mind, now is a great time to leverage an investment in this area.
Coastal Dreams Worldwide will showcase properties around this beach that could serve as a second home for the next 10 years so a person can enjoy the beach for its current culture while benefiting from the increase in land values as tourism in Nicaragua continues to grow exponentially.

Healthcare and Offshore Investment One misconception held by many US citizens (45 % in a recent survey) is that the US health care system is the best in the world. Sadly it is not even close. Although the US has the most expensive health care in the world, based on an ongoing National scorecard on High Performance Health systems, the US ranks among the lowest of industrialized nations with a decrease in its score from 2 years ago.
On the other hand, health care in developing countries is getting better with access to better equipment, education, and government funding. Many Latin American countries are beginning to capitalize on the health care issues of the US. Many Americans are already saving 1000's of dollars by Medical Tourism. For example: a person can travel to Latin America for vacation and for a tenth of the cost get all their medical treatments while they enjoy the relaxation of vacation.
What does all this mean?
For the Retiree: If you are looking to retire abroad, the risk of quality health care is becoming less and less an issue. It has always been affordable, now you will the quality you expect as well.
For the foreign investor: An article on Medical Tourism stated: "Foreign real estate investors might be interested to know that the impact on medical tourism destination economies should be "very positive,". Popular medical tourist destinations include developing countries such as India, the Philippines and South and Central American countries, as well as fairly developed countries, such as Singapore and South Korea."
For the Entrepreneurial business person: Opportunity only bounded by your own mind.

Living off the Grid with Green Innovation If you travel to developing countries such as Nicaragua one thing you will notice is the massive leap in telephony technology. Nicaraguans essentially went from no phone technology in many areas, skipped past land lines and went right to cellular. For example, one day when looking at property 6 kilometers out of San Juan, I turned the corner and saw an elderly Nicaraguan woman walking down the hill with her bull. She was on the phone chatting away. The two worlds of the past and the future had just merged.
Hopefully these countries will do the same with Energy. They can skip right from little to no electricity, right to clean energy based electricity instead of building out more dependence on fossil fuel based energy. Often in developing countries many things that we take for granted in the developed world can be ripe for groundbreaking innovation using clean energy technology. Take for instance a system deployed in Nicaragua that will pasteurize milk using solar energy. I assume that not many of us think about milk pasteurization however, this can be a life altering technology for the average Nicaraguan family. Not only is this solution great for energy conservation in a world with ever increasing energy costs, but probably more importantly will reduce the sickness and disease previously caused by non-pasteurized or poorly pasteurized milk.
This is a simple example of green innovation in developing countries. We know there are many more. We are going to begin a series of posts on living and developing off the grid/green technologies. We are looking to collect information on any and all current technologies as well as newer ideas that have the potential to be used to build greener cleaner and more self sufficient developments in Nicaragua and other developing countries. This is not about building eco resorts. In the future hopefully it will hopefully just 'resort'. Eco will be a given.
If you have thoughts or ideas on this, please send send them to kevin@cdwsa.com.
