OTGD: Do It Yourself Wind Turbine

Part of our Off the Grid Development Series
2009 seems to be there year of DIY or at least a broader renewed interest. Probably driven in part to the current economic situation combined with a new look for many consumers about what they are really spending their disposable income on. That being said if you are looking for an interesting project, I came across an article on a new book on how to build your own wind turbine in a home workshop. (Hat Tip: Off Grid.net) The book, Homebrew Wind Power, is written by Dan Bartmann and Dan Fink who have more than 20 years experience in building wind turbines. They began building wind turbines to help power remote off grid mountain communities in Colorado. I would imagine that this same information could be used to put up power generation in off grid developments and local communities around where a development is located. I might pick this up and try it out as a summer project!
