The AQUS greywater recycling system, which debuted in 2006 at a water industry trade show is the creation of a startup called WaterSaver Technologies. The device captures water from the sink, filters and disinfects it to be re-used for toilet flushing. It was named one of the top 100 best innovations by Popular Science in 2007. The great thing about this product is that it uses standard plumbing parts and can be installed by professional plumbers in about 2 hours. Current pricing is a little under $400, however in a standard 2 person household it can save up to 6000 gallons of water a year. The product has really picked up steam and will now be distributed by Sloan Value - the worlds leading manufacture of water-efficient plumbing devices.
The great thing about using this device in developments is that is based on re-use and not reduction so usage of the device wouldn’t really be notice by guests, and yet still provide great water savings which is especially important in areas with an overall lack of water in general.
