Progress on the Cosiguina Peninsula

When we were up in northwestern Nicaragua earlier this year, the reason for the massive road construction project into the Cosiguina region of Nicaragua was to facilitate commerce for not only the peanut farming in the area but also to support the expected traffic from the new ferry that would connect Potosi with El Salvador. However like many projects people would believe it when they saw it.
However, there was some promise as this was not your typical central American road construction project. They were digging holes every 500 ft to check soil stability under the road. They were laying over a foot of crushed rock as a base, and then laying down blacktop. There were as many, or more construction vehicles than a project such as this in the US.
Trucks loaded with peanuts are probably not the lightest vehicles on the road but it still seems like a massive, aggressive undertaking for this country, when it often takes years to not only get projects like this started but also completed. Being there, and seeing the progress and pace, we expect that the road will be pretty much finished when we head up there again in January, if its not done already.
Then, just this week we have heard news from friends in the country that work has started on the ferry ports at Potosi! I tried Googling this but could find nothing recent. All I could find was a reference from July of this year that seems to point to projects of this nature in the general area.
All this being said - Why is this important? Well, it will drastically open up this part of the country. Up until recently the Cosiquina peninsula was very inaccessible to say the least and only visited by locals and the heartiest of travelers. The new paved road to Potosi will change all of this. This road passes about 6 miles south from our Las Laderas Property before it swings northwest to cross the peninsula.
As in investor, this is a great thing. Not only will it bring more traffic to the region, but this is a great example of using other peoples money to increase the value of your investment. This road development, and what it brings to the region will probably increases the value of property in this region more than any individual project could ever do, all without any additional investment (outside of taxes:).
Nicaragua as a country is still very much on the upswing from an investment perspective. The Cosiguina region in the north pacific area of Nicaragua is infantile in its investment lifecycle, offering an amazing investment opportunity.
