Work is Play - Play is Work

What happens when you love what you do? The spirit of Entrepreneurial Travel. My wife and I are leaving for Nicaragua in one week. We will be in Central America for 13 days. Last night Paula asked a few interesting questions. “Wes, what are we going to do for fun? What are going to do to play? How many days are you going to work?” My immediate reaction was a mental defensive posturing. I want to work every day. Work is my play. Work is my fun. I can’t think of anything I would rather do than look for property, check out resort developments, talk with land engineers, heck I even look forward to the meetings with the lawyers. My next thoughts were, oh no, she is going to want me to sit by the pool and read a book, or we are going to have to go the beach and lay around. I don’t want to sit around and do nothing.
Now, I love my wife and I love to be with my wife. It is not that I do not want to sit by the pool with Paula it does not have anything to do with whether or not I want to be with Paula. I would rather Paula run around the jungle with me scouting property. So with her help we came up with some alternative solutions to play time. I agreed to take a few days off and we are going to spend a couple of days on Ometempe Island exploring the volcano Concepcion. I have heard the island described as the eighth physical wonder of the world. We are going to the beach one day and I will take my first surf lesson. We will take one day and charter the Pelican Eyes sailboat to go deep sea fishing. I heard the fishing is world class. Paula gets beach time, ocean time, and some exotic travel time. Oh yea, our bed and breakfast, Casa Del Soul, has a swimming pool so we get the pool time taken care of by accident. I get adventure, and I get to experience some of Nicaragua’s spectacular tourist draws. Most importantly Paula and I get to spend time together. For me, it is all work and all play. I do not know the difference because I love what I do. I could “work” every day as if it were play, or I could “play” every day as if it were work. Thank God my wife understands me, is patient with me, and has the ability to ask for what she needs and wants so we can travel together and both have fun.
For many people work is punishment and for others it is pure joy. I like to hand out with people who enjoy their work and their lives. The spirit of Entrepreneurial Travel for me is the opportunity to travel and work and play all at the same time. Our goal is to have E-Travel Adventures in the near future so I can hang out with people who love to work and play at the same time.
