Investing In Nicaragua is not Simple
Mar 30th, 2008 by Kevin
There is an interesting article about investing in Nicaragua on NuWire Inventor by Barry Oliver who is the GM of Century 21’s Gold Coast Realty. This first version came across my news-feed a few days ago and since then the article has been overhauled significantly for the better, but is still either too much information for a summary, or too little depending on how you read it. The focus of the article is about limiting your risk when investing in Nicaragua, and while it provide some very sound advice the reader will likely either walk away saying - wow - “way too many obstacles - forget it” or potentially even worse - “sounds pretty simple - lets do it”.
The length of the article is not a true indicator of difficulty by far. Each of his six points discussed require significant time and money to undertake to not only execute, but find the right person to do it. What I expected at the end of the article was a comment about using Century 21 to button all this up for you, but he didn’t… leaving the reader to figure out if they should be excited or scared.
For example topic number 4 in the article is listed as “Aquire Title Insurance“… 4 lines long….like its as simple as going into the title insurance company and walking out with a form that same day. For a slightly more realistic discussion on Land Title in Nicaragua see our post here.
A second example was topic number 3 - have a topographer review the property boundaries. Great advice, but how would anyone have a clue on where to start on this one? This is Nicaragua - there are few standards and no yellow pages. For example Coastal Dreams Worldwide has a partner company in Nicaragua that specializes in land development services.
I am not trying to take away from the points in this article but hopefully it makes potential would-be investors realize the age old ‘the more you know, the more you know you don’t know‘. And if what you read sounds interesting, keep learning until you are comfortable. If it sounds scary, don’t let it stop you from getting in on some great wealth building opportunities. Utilize the services of of professionals to reduce this risk for you.
