Emergency Passport Renewals
Jan 16th, 2008 by Kevin
After my post a few days ago regarding the snag I ran into with the 6 month passport expiration rule, things are now all back in order and our travel will be able to go ahead as planned (with only 3 days to spare:). To summarize, after finding out that I would likely not be able to get into Nicaragua for our next trip down there this month, based on the fact that my passport would expire in less than 6 months after my date of travel, my last resort as of Monday was to contact the Canadian consulate and request an emergency passport renewal.
So what is an emergency? They advertise that it is for family related illness, death, mission work, but not vacation travel…. so what about business travel? Well, as it turns out, business travel is a valid need for an emergency passport renewal if you can prove it is for business purposes, and the ticket has already been paid for. OK so that means have a a claim, however being in Boise, there is no consulate, so I had to book a last minute day trip to Seattle, (which is where the consulate for my jurisdiction resides). With the help of our travel agent Nicki, I was able to get a good deal on a last minute ticket and flew up there this morning. All in all, things went very smoothly today. I left Boise on a 7:30 flight, I had all my paperwork in order and arrived at the consulate shortly after it opened. I was done, and back to the airport a little after 11 am and was back in Boise by 2:30. Wouldn’t it be great if all travel went that smoothly!

I am also in Boise, going abroad with an expired passport. I am applying again tomorrow for renewed passport.
What is your experience of getting a new/renewed passport here in Boise.
